Portraits of Success

Shannon Corcoran

Shannon Corcoran

In 2018, Shannon graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science, Mathematical Sciences degree. Thanks to the generous support from the foundation, she was able to focus her attention on schoolwork, which helped her land her dream job as an actuarial consultant!

Shannon aspires to be a certified actuary and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries. She has just passed the last exam to become an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and will continue to pursue her goal. Shannon realizes that she would not be where she is today without the help of the AFSA and is very thankful. She hopes that one day she will be able to help students achieve their goals, just as the AFSA has helped her! Go Tigers!

"Thank you again for the generous contribution, it has been very impactful."

I am honored to have received this scholarship and am thankful for the opportunity to share my story. Below is how the AFSA CMSAF Scholarship has helped me this school year:

I am so thankful to have been a recipient of the 2020 Chief Master Sergeants of the Air Force Scholarship. Because of the funding I received from the AFSA, I was able to cover the costs of all of my course materials for my freshman year of college, with additional funds to put towards my housing expenses. There are many things to worry about when it comes to attending college for the first time, but thanks to the generosity of those at AFSA, buying materials was not one of them.

Thank you!

My lifelong dream of becoming a Dance Education Teacher is moving forward, thanks to the generous educational scholarships offered through the Air Force Sergeant’s Association (AFSA).  I have been blessed to be awarded two scholarships through AFSA, and because of the $5,000 awarded over two years (2019 Klobus Scholarship; 2020 Staton Scholarship), my dream is becoming a reality at Weber State University.  Receiving this financial support allowed me to remain totally focused on my studies, and not have to divide my attention between school work and having a job.  The impact this financial support has had on me is reflected in the fact I have achieved a 3.9 GPA and been named to the Dean’s or President’s List every semester I have been in college.  None of that would have been possible without the financial support from AFSA.

I am writing to thank you for providing the opportunity to receive your Airmen Memorial Foundation Scholarship this year. I was very excited and appreciative to learn that I was selected as the recipient of this award.

I am currently pursuing my Bachelors of Science Degree in the College of Engineering and Technology specializing in Simulation, Animation and Gaming at Eastern Michigan University. I am a second-year student, and plan to complete my undergraduate degree in 2023. I have aspirations to become an active member in the animation field upon my college graduation. I sincerely appreciate your monetary contribution as I am one step closer to reaching my career goals.

By receiving this honor you have lightened my financial burden which allows me to place all my energy and concentration on the most important aspect of my education, learning. Your generosity is granting me the ability to make my educational pursuits, as well as, my career aspirations a reality! Thank you for contributing to my education and allowing me to sharpen my talents and skills to fuel my future!

It was an extreme honor to be awarded the Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force scholarship. Not only is it an honor, but also a blessing that I am beyond thankful to have received. This scholarship has help give me the opportunity to pursue my degree of Health Science at Wilmington University. Student debt is easily acquired every year by a million students, and with that debt comes a ton of stress on every student. The stress of how they will pay it back or if they will always be in debt. By receiving this scholarship, it has alleviated that stress for me, and I can focus more on my education. With my degree, I plan to commission into the United States Air Force and work within the medical field to change lives. While I am in the Air Force, I plan to further my education and get my degree in Physical Therapy. Again, I am truly grateful for having been awarded this scholarship.

Sincerely,

Yazmyne Valencia

The United States Air Force has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember, and it makes me incredibly proud to say that. Seeing my entire family serve our country, past and present, has been so rewarding in every aspect possible. Although I did not follow in my family's footsteps, I am grateful that I can still incorporate the USAF in my journey. By receiving this scholarship, it has helped move forward in pursuing my nursing degree at Bellarmine University, in hopes of graduating in 2024! I am more than grateful for this opportunity and even happier that the Air Force has created a foundation that has changed not only my family's life, but my own as well.

Thank you,

Rebecca Wolff

My name is Rebecca, and I was a scholarship recipient for several years! I wanted to write to thank you for your help and show my appreciation in helping me reach my goals.

With the support you provided me, I was able to graduate with not one, but two bachelor's degrees from Ohio University (Psychology and Biological Sciences). I graduated from OU in 2017. Subsequently I was able to get my master’s degree in Medical Sciences.

The reason for my email is to express my excitement in announcing that I was accepted to Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine's Class of 2024. When I graduate, I will be Dr. Rebecca Wolff (Physician). I could not have achieved any of this without the support you provided. Because of you, I was able to focus solely on my grades and not the burden of funding an education.

"Thank you again, AFSA, for supporting me on my journey!"

PHOTOSDue to COVID my school wasn't able to have a Commencement, so my parents planned a backyard celebration this past weekend (on the date my ceremony should've been). In the photo is my dad, Paul Wolff TSGT USAF-Retired, presenting me with my Master's Degree.
